Default Amazing sight

Today I was walking thru a local Best Buy store and walked thru the camera dept to see what they had. To my surprise, I spotted a new A65 but noticed it was on display sans a lens. I looked inside the body and the mirror had been simply abused. There were finger prints on it plus two bad scratches, almost like someone had keyed it.

  • The lens is the thing.

G'day outhouse

as TC says "OUCH" ...

As you/we know, the mirror is 'front-slivered' not 'back silvered' as is a domestic mirror, and that the mirror surface is only 'millionths-of-an-inch' thick

-anything- that touches the mirror will mark it > tho with fingerprints it does seem to have suffered more than it should have done

Years ago I "cleaned" the mirror of my Pentax using a small-size genuine camel-hair brush: swiped across & up & down, gently as I had been told to to by a camera-club know-it-all, to look later and see lots of lines like sandpaper on a piece of wood

Because the marks were on the mirror, they never came into focus when viewing, but they 'darkened' the viewfinder image making it hard to use in some conditions. One mirror-replacement later I was back in business, "wiser but broker"
