Hello, Im looking for a (1) lens that will cover most all shooting. Sure I know im going to give up alot over primes and smaller zooms. Im looking to cover approximetely 30 - 300 (in 35mm terms) range. Im flexible in the ranges, so 36 wont kill me at the wide angle, maybe 42. Just something that will offer decent quality for everyday shooting. 30% 8x10 work, the rest mostly 5x7 prints. suggestions?

How about the Tokina 24-200 f3.5-5.6 (36-300mm APS)?

Anybody try this lens? Except for being heavy, It might work better on a APS size ccdthan it does on a 35mm camera (photozone).

Or how about Sigma's 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 (D) Macro Autofocus lens? Effectively giving you 42-450 mm (in 35mm terms). Seems about as all-around as you can get, and it's quite compact as well. $269 at BHPhotoVideo.com:

Sigma 18-200 or Tamron/Minolta 18-200. Tamron makes mostMinolta lenses.
