Hi, I just ordered a Maxxum 5d and was curious about the battery life by people who have used the camera.Normally on outings I take about 200-300 pictures.

I heard good things about the external battery DPS-9000 by DIGIPOWER so I was curious as to whether the DPS-9000would work with my Maxxum 5D so I wrote to DIGIPOWER.. This is there response:

Thank you for contacting Digipower.

The DPS-9000 will work with the Konica Minolta D5 but not with the Canon S2-is

Now I haven't received my Maxxum 5d yet and the DPS-9000appears to be a bitbulky. I was wondering if I would be better served to just order another NP400. The battery life on my DPS-9000 issupposed to be excellent lasting a extremely long time, but it would appear to add more to the size of the D5.

I just hate going places only to find that I am almost out of battery power. A friend who uses the DPS-9000 with his DIMAGE7I swears by it..

Has anyone tried a DPS-9000 with their D5? Any recommendations. Thanks all, and Happy Holidays.

Got the 5D about a week ago. So far I've taken 263 pictures on the first battery charge. 80% or so with the flash.

I did buy a secondaftermarket NP400 battery for $25, though, just in case.

lose the aftermarket battery

? does it have the proprietary built in protective circuitry ?

maybe, maybe not

$25 (saved $15) versus a $1300 camera

Thanks a bunch. Yeah, I decided to get a second Minolta battery for it. It looks like the camera gets decent battery life and a second battery would be a good batter rather than using a bigger bulky external battery.
