I am very interested in a lens with this range, even with its fstops. Right now I am using an older Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.5 and find that it is too short for many situations. My long lens is the beercan 70-210, but I find myself not taking that lens out often because of its size and weight. (I know that is just an excuse and laziness)
I have stayed away from the 18-200/250's because of their reviews and now that this new lens is coming out (well actually it is out now as you can buy it from sony style and a few other online sites) I am kinda excited and hoping that IQ will be very good. I have a 50mm 1.8 but I think I want to get the 35mm 1.8 instead because of my cropped sensor on the a580. I think it will be better for indoor shots as the crop makes the 50mm a bit too close. |

If you can try the 18-250 do it. I don't know what bad?? reviews you have read but I will say that I have had mine for 4 years and it is the one I don't plan on getting rid of.
It has performed well on my A700, A900, A580, and now the A77. I like it. ![]()

I have Sigma version of the 18-250 I use on a Pentax camera (their is Sony Mount Available for the lens as well) and it is very good all in one lens that I use for a lot of newspaper work I do locally.

I just replaced my A65 with an A77 + 18-135. I've only used it one day, but I think it is very sharp, fast focus and almost as quiet as my 16-50 SSM.
Here's a JPEG with no PP sample shot at 135MM F5.6: ![]() You can see my relections in the glass. Last edited by lakensea; Jul 29, 2012 at 12:59 PM. |

Thanks lakensea!
I am hoping that this lens will be much better than the 18-200/250's that just get so so ratings. When I was shopping for the lens I have now (Sigma 17-70) everyone said to stay away from the all in ones, so I listened. I am not regretting my decision but I do wish I had some more length but with the same quality. So once I heard about this lens I got excited and hope this will be my next lens. |
