I asked Tamron for the availability date for this lens, and here is the response:

"Not until next year as the lens was just announced.

Tamron USA "



This is bad news for me, as I wanted it for my Christmas Vacation.

Amazon.com has it listed for $499 and an availability date of Jan. 15, 2007

I would certainly wait before spending that kind of money on that lens. I'd rather sacrifice on the range and go with a "like new" 18-200mm for a lot less than to have to pay 499 for a lens of that caliber. I'm sure it will drop after it has been released.

I also want to see the results and quite frankly I don't expect this lens to be any better than their 18-200mm or the 28-300mm in terms of overall performance. The 18-250mm serves a purpose in that it will be a great traveling lens for those of us willing to give up a little tele-range from the 28-300mm to gain more at the wide end.

They now say December 20th, but that could easily slip. I agree about waiting. The lens is going to be a great walk around lens, but surely the price will drop after introduction.
