I looking at a MINOLTA AF 50mm f/1.7 for indoor sports use with a KM 5D which will make it 75mm. Is this the right sort of lens to be looking at? I currently have the 17 - 70 Kit lens and a 70 - 300 Tamron.

Any other suggestions, or am I in the right area?

Thanks,

Mark

the 50 - f1.7 will make an excellent low light lens for 1/4 the price of the 50 - f1.4

I second what Bernabeu says. IMHO, if 75mm is all you need then I would say that would be a great lens to get. It is really sharp and fast as well. The f1.7 would be great for indoors where usually Flash photography is not encouraged.

50 f/1.7 is a great lens, I just got one recently and so far after playing around with it found it to be quite flexible and light to walk around with. Only @ 1.7 it's not that sharp.

Also it costs practically nothing....

If you need something longer, you may also want to look around for a 100mm f/2.

They're a bit hard to find. But, you see them pop up on the used market from time to time. I found one in the used department at Adorama a while back.
