I have always had prosumer cameras, and used Close-Up filters, attachable at the front of the lens to do Macro photography.

Now I just bougth a KM-5D (it is really great!!), and I don't know if use the same close-up lens (Canon 500D) or use an extension tube.

What is your recommendation? Which will give best results?

Thanks in advance!

One of the nicest close up or macro type shots I ever made was with Minolta SRT-101, 50mm f1.7 and a Vicitar close up filter. I have never used extension tubes, only the close up filters and macro lenses.

No experience with ex-tubes but I was pretty blown away mounting my nikon 6T on my ebay "beercan" minolta 70-210 f4.
Results are roughly 1:1 max magnification.
It may be hit and miss combos with mixing glass.

Here are some samples,

first pic is full frame minus some empty space chopped off the top

second is a 100% crop

Notice its not perfect, see the slight color separation (blue and redish boarders) around some hi contrast edges.
Sometimes it shows up others not at all.

Wow!, great close-up!!

It seems nobody has used extension tubes, but at least I know close-up filters really work!

Thanks for sharing
