I have been taking RAW shots with my Dynax 5 D, after I have edited them, I save them but, how can i change them into a JPEG for printing purposes. My RAWs come as a MRW as you will probably know,

Cheers

If you are using DiMAGE Viewer (or any other program) you go to file/save as.

Another screen will pop up and you can save as .tiff, .jpg, .bmp (if in photoshop then you have more choices). You will find this just below "file name"

Hi,

I use Thumbs + (http://www.cerious.com/) You can do batch operations and it will create it's own subdirectory or new file. Other parameters can also be set.

Great for RAW also as I can see the thumbnails or click for full screen. I also have it for my scanner to make copies of everything.

Photoshop CS2 supports MRW format from KM 5D & 7D. I use it and it is excellent.

If you're doing your editing in Photoshop, you'll need to flatten your layers and change from 16 bit to 8 bit (under Image, Mode) before you can save as JPEG (unless you use save for web).

What raw converter and image editor are you using?

There are a number of free programs available that can convert your raw (mrw) files to jpeg, too. Here's one example:

Hello Folks!

I began to shoot "RAW" with my 7D, when download to my lovely "Picasa" 2.6 photo organizer..seems me that "Automatically" it's converted to JPG...which one...really I don't know..., among us "Doesn't matter to me!"...as 99% I mail them or post here at our lovely KM-Sony forum. As where I live, the only "Mini-Lab"can't cope with RAW format...so is always imperative to bring to the "Mini-Lab" a JPG size files format.

Maybe the free ware "Picasa" from Goggle will end your problem?:P

Peace,

There are lots of raw processors that will convert your raw file into a jpeg. Some cost money but others are free.

Suggested free raw processors:

Dimage Master Lite (it came with your camera) especially good for low light images but very slow. It needs a free update from KM to read 5D files as far as I remember.

Picasa 2.6 very quick and a great organiser but not that adjustable and has a problem with in-camera auto rotated 5D .mrw files displaying incorrectly (workaround is to delete the .thm files). (picasa.google.com)

Faststone viewer, quick but I don't like the screen rendering. (http://www.faststone.org)

SilkyPix V3 free, a free version of SilkyPix which gives really good results but has a weird interface. The free version is a bit limited in adjustments. (http://www.isl.co.jp/SILKYPIX/english/)

IrfanView, a bit rudimentary for me but handles an amazing amount of file formats. (http://www.irfanview.com)

RawShooter Essentials, a good basic processor (no longer being developed). (http://www.photo-freeware.net/raw-shooter-essentials.php)

RawDrop a front end for DCRAW, simply converts from raw to tiff by drag and drop. Images will need further processing and saving as jpegs. (http://www.wizards.de/rawdrop/)

Helicon Filter Free. Forces you to follow a prescribed workflow, if you like that sort of thing. Begins as a 30 day demo. (http://www.heliconfilter.com)

RawTherapee, I really like the results of this processor. It is capable of generating a high level of detail. (http://www.rawtherapee.com)

PhotoFiltre, does a good job and has tons of features even in it's free form. The paid version has a lot more and can use some photoshop plugins (it's cheap as well). (http://photofiltre.free.fr/download_en.htm)

The best thing to do is have a play until you find one which has controls that you like and gives the results that you want. They are all free, so there is nothing to lose.
There are probably more that I haven't come across yet and of course there are paid for processors as well.

Also worth mentioning is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom

http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshoplightroom/

I've used it since Beta 3 and it has replaced my Adobe Bridge / ACR workflow. Best of all I can make adjustments & crops without actually changing my original photo.

Its on sale for $199 through the end of the month. Just in case any one is interested.
