SinceI have a couple of 55mm lenses I'd like to get a circular polarizer. I still use my kit lens and was wondering if anyone has used a CP with thier kit lens? If so, do you need a thin one to prevent vignetting at 18mm?

Thanks.

I am not sure any polarizer will work well with the kit lens. That lens rotates when focusing so would change the angle of the polarizer. Knew it would drive me nuts keeping track of that so decided not to get a polarizer.

Thanks Bill for your reply. I posted this question about 2 hours before I left to Arizona. Just got back today

I ended up buying a cheap Hoya polarizer (regular size not slim) and found that that there is vignetting at 18mm. It's gone at 20mm maybe 19.

With the front element rotating during focusing it does make it a little difficult to use. If you letthe focuslock on to what your shooting and continue to hold the button halfway down while rotating the polarizer you can get it to work quite well.

It just takes a little practice, also the 55mm CP can be used onquite a few Minoltalenses.

Shot a couple with the kit lens at 35mm.
