I can't see how it will as the drive for all KM/Sony lenses is in camera body not in the lens (unless I'm wrong) so it will be normal AF drive, however I used this for a long time before making the switch to Canon and the AF speed was nottoomuch slower than with the HSM lens on my 30D. Results were good too, have a look here for KM 5D with the older version of this lens.

The KM Now Sony 70-200 f/2.8 G has SSM so it can be done. Nikon also has body driven focus but uses HSM for larger lenses.

That's cool, I wasn't sure of the situation as I stopped using KM kit about 7 months ago.
