Five come immediately to mind:

1. Ten megapixel image sensor in the A100 vs. six megapixel image sensor in the 5D.

2. Anti-dust Vibration in the A100.

3. They both have eyepiece sensors that detect when you place your eye to the viewfinder. The 5D uses it to turn off the LCD display. The A100 can also use it to turn on the AutoFocus. (I think this is a great idea!)

4. While they both have 2.5 inch LCD displays, the A100 uses a 230,000 pixel display while the 5D uses a 115,000 pixel display.

5. The 5D uses a 14 segment honeycomb pattern matrix for the AE, while the A100 uses 40 segments.

Anybody else?

Tough call.

I have an old P&S that I can call into service in an emergency, and I think we're close enough to Sony introducing a new modelthatI might just keep my fingers crossed for a while.

But that would depend on what I might need it for in the mean time.

In the VIEWFINDER?

What error signal did you get in the viewfinder?

on the bottom section of the viewfinder just said err and nothing was working

i panicked and switched off the camera then turned it back on and it was fine

within that particular weekend it did it twice

that was in late april during an Elton John concert

my fingers are crossed and it has not done it since

but a bit worried my luck will run out

Personally, I think the issue has been blown out of proportion. See my posts in this thread about it:

They're still fixing it for free. But, I am not sending my camera in and risking someone is going to mess up my AF calibration, etc. lol

Oops.. Wrong link. Here's the right one. I'll edit the original post.

Trinidad and Tobago, huh? I visited there during the 70's. It's been quite a while. :-)

I'm not sure where the authorized service center would be for your area. But, you can reference this Service Advisory about the issue if you want to send it in:

http://ca.konicaminolta.com/informat...202/01_en.html

Here is a page with links to Contact Info for various Sony locations worldwide.

http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/...ist/index.html

Chances are, they are using a third party vendor to perform the service (or, that's the way it's done in the U.S. anyway).

thanks jim

from my calculations it will cost me at least $150 U.S dollars to send this body up and back

then the bullshi^%#%@#%%*&T i will have to put up with customs when it comes back

i wonder now if to cut the loss and use the $150 towards the A100

i had so many second thoughts before i bought the 5D, though i don't regret the pics i got from it, but i had a 24-105 minolta zoom in a cupboard for years hoping to couple it to a digital slr
