It's probably the Sigma lens rebranded for Ritz & Wolf Camera stores (since nobody else seems to make a 135-400 f/4.5-5.6 APO). The user ratings for the Sigma at Dyxum.com, PhotoDo.com and PhotoZone.de all speak highly of it.

Adorama and B & H have the Sigma new for $589. KEH has it used (LN-)for $349, but with a Canon mount.

thanks for the info.

i checked out dyxum, it got pretty good reviews.

i played around with it and liked it but when i got home i put my 2x extender on my 70-200 f2.8 with about the same results.

so i think i am going to go that way for now.

You didn't say whose 70-200 f/2.8 you had, but it seems the Sony (Minolta) and the Sigma are very good lenses, and the Tamron is probably very good, so you must have a pretty good teleconverter as well.

But remember that you can also put your 2X teleconverter on the 135-400. Might that be useful to you? (Are you a birder or paparazzi?)

BTW, how much is he asking for it?

i have the sigma 70-200 f2.8 apo lens which i love.

no i am not a birder but shoot alot of wildlife. deer and things to that nature.

i have about 65 acres down here which has deer, turkey and stuff like that.

i thought about the 2x extender on that lens but then the aperture would be up to 11 or something like that.i need to be able to hand hold andi am justnot capable of holding that lens at f11 800mm plus the 1.5x conversion for digital.

My 2x extender is the quantaray that is $80 at ritz camera.

he wants $350 for the lens, but he has a couple of other local people interested i just had first chance on it.

think i may just save for the 400mm f2.8
