I'm with TCav....don't worry about your choice to get the A700 with this lens if you want that kind of focal range in a single walk around lens.

If I were going to get an ultra zoom type lens with that kind of range from wide to long (and I have no plans to at this time), the Sony 18-250mm would be my choice.

Just keep in mind that a lens like this is going to have some drawbacks compared to some of the lenses around with a less ambitious focal range (distortion, brightness, etc.). It's just not practical to make a brighter, higher quality lens with that much range from wide to long in a single lens (it would be far too large and heavy).

So, you may need something else later, depending on the conditions you plan on shooting in (for example, that lens would be virtually useless indoors without a flash for non-stationary subjects).

But, for what it does (single lens with a lot of focal range), it's probably as good as it gets right now.
