On the 6th, I purchased the A700 and a 18-250 zoom.. $1350 for the camera and $550 for the lens.

I was just in Best Buy looking at bags and saw the camera with the 18-200mm (SAL18200) on sale (instant rebate) for $1329.99 !!

What does or what can a person do in a case like this?

You really don't want the 18-200mm. Your 18-250mm is a much better lens. That's a super deal for that kit though. I'd probably buy it and sell the lens. :-)

I paid more than that for my camera ($1399 body only price).

When you want to be first to buy a brand new camera model, you're going to pay more for it. ;-)

That's just Supply and Demand

I'm wondering if someone made a pricing error at the store, too. I'd be tempted go buy it and put it on Ebay. lol

The lowest price I've seen from a reputable dealer on the body only so far is $1249

I see that package priced at $1599.98 on their web site (and that's after a $300 instant package savings).

Bestbuy.com listing for Sony DSLR-A700 with Sony 18-200mm Lens

Scroll down and you'll see the package contents showing the A700 with the 18-200mm lens with this shown on the page:
  • Special package savings of $300.00 (discounted from individual-item total) (Reg. price $1899.98 - $300.00 instant package savings = $1599.98 final price)[/*]

... and that implies that the 18-200 is worth $200. It's not.

So I'd call the BestBuy deal a ripoff. Maybe Sony has a bunch of 18-200s that they're trying to unload on an unsuspecting public, and have offeredthem to BestBuy for a lowball price.

But, the package price he's seeing is less than I paid for the camera body alone (and only about $80 more than I've seen the body selling for at the lowest price I've seen for one discounted from reputable vendors). That's a good deal from my perspective. ;-)

If the offer of an α700 with an 18-200 for $1329.99is a 'for realie', then I'd say that's a good deal, but that's not what the online offer was for.

And as to the 18-200, that's what eBay is for. I was reparing to sell my KM 18-200that way, and saw lots of Sony 18-200s listed. Maybe that's where they're coming from.

There's another way to look at this.

BestBuy will give you $60 off an α700 if you'll take an 18-200 off their hands.

Even I'd say that's a good deal. :-)

OK - I'm relieved. The salesperson didn't know what he was talking about - new guy. The sale was as indicated on their web site. Whew....I hate getting ripped off after the fact.

How come there isn't a 'for sale' folder here? I'm in the market for a relatively fast, short focal length lens that won't break the bank any more....

Sorry, Steve does not want the forums to look like a big flea market for buying and selling gear, and we do not allow business to be conducted between members in our forums.

If you read the confirmation e-mail you received when joining our forums, you'll see this mentioned:

Quote:
Please do not post For Sale or Want to Buy topics here, this is not a marketplace like eBay.
It's just too hard to police. We'd have companies posing as individuals, scammers posting trying to buy and sell gear, hard feelings between members when deals go sour and more. Plus, it's hard enough to keep the spammers out now.

So, we don't allow those kinds of posts here. You'll find that most forums have rules against buy/sell type threads (it can get you banned quickly if you do that on a number of major photography forums). We're a bit nicer here and send a friendly note about it if an existing member misses the rules.

Thanks for understanding
