This the link for U.S. version:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...;mdl=DSLRA700K

I upgraded my A700 in less than two minutes. Works great! Little sharper and less noise at higher ISO.

The translation on the U.S. page is flawed, implying lower noise and better sharpness over previous firmware versions.

That's only if you still had Version 1 installed.

See the description from Sony Europe:

http://support.sony-europe.com/dime/...=pl&f=A700

Improvements and solved issues

Improvements over Firmware "Ver.1":
  • The picture sharpness is better under low contrast conditions.[/*]
  • Noise is reduced when working at high sensitivity ISO setting.[/*]
  • The flash control is better at close range with a non-ADI control lens.[/*]
Improvements over Firmware "Ver.2":
  • When pictures are taken rapidly, the access lamp may stay lit and the system may become inoperable.[/*]
  • When turning off the camera when the "MR" mode is selected, some settings registered in the MR mode can be reflected in other shooting modes.[/*]

Thank you for the links,

Mine only arrived two days ago, but had v1 so the update to v3 should have some benefit

I still haven't updated my a700 to version 3 (although I did update it from Version 1 to Version 2 for the image quality improvements when it was released).

I'll try to get to it before I use the camera again (although I haven't noticed any problems using version 2 with mine).

Click on either of the links in the first two posts in this thread and you'll see the instructions to check your firmware version on the page that comes up.

P.S.

I am now seeing some evidence from raw conversion software developers that Sony changed more than the notes about the firmware upgrades would lead you to believe between Version 2 and Version 3, even at the raw file level. So, they may have made more improvements than is obvious from reading the published info on the upgrade pages.
