Does anyone know if there is an obvious difference in the quality/function of these 2 lenses? Is the new Zeiss lens really better and if so, how is it better? Any opinions would be appreciated.

The new Zeiss is likely a bit sharper at wider apertures and a bit faster focusing lens. The bokeh (the quality of the out of focus highlights) may be a bit better on the original though. There are Pros and Cons to both optical designs.
