Ok, so I just noticed something the other day. when shooting in jpeg only and continuous...after the 4 shot it pauses a little bit before taking the 5th shot then slows down to what seems like only 3 fps.

but when shooting in raw OR raw+jpeg and continuous it seems to do just fine even after the 5th shot with no pauses.

is this normal? and why? doesn't really make sense to me. I figured shooting only in jpeg it would be faster since the files are smaller but I guess not.

Thanks

What card are you using? If you have multiple cards, does it happen with all of them?

I only have one card right now, the lexar pro 4gb udma card. And it's a real one not a fake

Actually, we just got my dad an a300 for Xmas and he has a sandisk card, I will throw that in and see if I notice any difference

I just tried a sandisk III card and it does the same thing as well.
maybe I should go to a local retailer or sony store to test on of their a700 display models and see if it does the same thing?

No, it doesn't sound normal. It may have to do with your focus not locking onto the subject therefore slowing down your frame rate.

Try releasing the autofocus priority in the menu. then try.

Thanks, I just tried that but still the same results. I called a couple stores including the local Sony store but I couldn't get anyone that actually knew what I was talking about. They need to train their people about dslr's!! haha

Tomorrow I am just going to go to the store myself and test a display model and see if I get the same results.

unless anyone else that has an a700 on here can see if they notice the problem I am having??

Just for the heck of it, turn everthing off. Switch to manual focus, manual exposure, leave the lens cap on, and hold down the shutter button. Does it still happen?

Just out of curiousity, did you format the card(s) in the camera?

No luck on that either. And yes, I did format the cards in camera.

It sounds rather sick to me, the problem setting is the one that should use the least memory so there is nothing I can think of that would cause this if there were not a fault. You have done enough tests that have clearly pointed to something strange going on so get it sorted out.
