Here is the latest update on my Tamron 70-300 mm LD Macro Di lens.

Yesterday I received a new lens in the mail from Tamron USA. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but it's got a new serial number and the full 6-year warranty.

They never did say what was wrong with the original lens or why it couldn't be repaired. I am happy they stood by the product.

It's reassuring that Tamron gave you a new lens. Good luck with it. I hope it serves you better than the last one.

Keep us posted, will you?

Default Tamron 70-300 mm LD Macro Di lens

Last year I finally threw in the towel on my Tamron 70-300 LD Macro Di lens. The 2nd one they gave me did not work out much better than the 1st. I am guessing that the A700 is too powerful for the internal mechanisms in that particular lens. When the 2nd one stopped working I requested and received a complete refund of my purchase price.

I almost purchased the 400mm Sony G lens last spring, but couldn't justify the price. I'm currently doing without until I win the lottery or something.

You might look at the Tamron SP 70-300MM F/4-5.6 Di USD, Optically, it's superior, and it has it's own AF motor, so you won't have the same problem again.

That is, unless Tamron has left a bad taste in your mouth.
