My trusty KM-5D just bit the dust.

Painfully, I might add.

Died from concrete impact disease.

Yes, she was in a camera bag. An old bag,but still a bag with foam padding. And the fall was less than 3ft. Yet the impact was disasterous.

My newly acquired Sony 70-300G was mounted on the KM-5D. When the combination hit the ground, the weight of the 70-300G disloged/sheared the small set screws which attached the A-Mount to the innerds of the camera. Most of the metalfrom the A-Mount (bayonet mount) was still attached to the rear of thebig lens andmounting screwslaying aboutin the bag.

In theory one could just swap the electronics from this camera into an old plastic shell OR attempt to rebuild the mounting holes from which the screws were removed.

Doesn't sound practical to me.

A700 is on order.

And just my luck, the new A800 will be announced on Monday.

Ouch. Well, it's better that the camera's mount sheared off, versus damaging that lens. Hopefully, the lens survived intact.

You'll like the A700. It's a very responsive camera. I rarely use my 5D anymore unless I need a backup body.
