No problem at all Kevin. I wish I knew more about U.K. vendors to help steer you in the right direction.

The price you're seeing looks good if you trust the vendor (I just don't know anything about them, since I'm in the U.S.).

If you go that route, make sure to share some photos. I shoot with a Sony Alpha myself (I'm using a Sony A700 right now), and I wouldn't trade it for any other model anywhere near it's price point. IOW, I like the camera. :-)

You will be pleased to know that, not only is the Tamron less expensive than the Sony 75-300, it is also better.
I a not sure ifthat's true. First, Sony's lens can be bought as part of kit. I gottwo kit lenses + A200 for around $450 (US) as open box item. Also, since it's a kit lens, you can find someone selling it on ebay for pretty cheap (~$100 if you wait a few days).

I also had Tamron 70-300. I am not sure it was any better. It was clunkier with slower focus speed. I didn't do side by side comparison of picture quality, but I from what I saw, there was not much difference.

As I said, I owned both. There was not much difference, other than the fact that AF on Sony was faster. Plus a used Sony is pretty cheap on ebay.
