Default Sony DSLR A700 LCD

Hi
I have registered here for a while but never post any thing before.

I am in San Francisco for vacation and I brought my A700 with me.
This morning I dropped my bag with my camera inside and cracked/broke the LCD display of my camera.
Other than the display, my camera still can take picture and function as usual, but the display is totally damaged.

What can I do to have my A700 repaired in the best way?

And not to miss my opportunity to take photos here, I bought another A350 today, which come with firmware version 1.
Is it the latest firmware version for A350 and if not how can I update it please.

Sorry to hear about your α700. Does your α700's LCD look similar to this:

(switched off)

Or this (when switched on):

If it is still under Sony warranty, you can simply contact Sony's service centre or Sony's authorised service provider. My was replaced under warranty. However, I've heard the cases that Sony many charge you for LCD replacement.

There's no firmware update to α350 to what I am aware.

Good luck.

PS. You might consider getting a Sony LCD Protect Cover for both of your cameras.

Thanks a lot !

On my LCD, can see several lines of glass cracks and the LCD was totally black with very few white lines when the power turned on!

My A700 still under warranty period, but I am not sure it will cover accident or not.

May I know how long does it take to have it repaired at sony?
And how much it will it cost for the LCD replacement?

Mine (α350) was replaced free under warranty. I sent it to the service centre on Monday, and picked it up on Friday.

If I remember correctly, I was given a quick quote that if it was determined to be my fault, the LCD replacement would cost me about AU$200. I briefly mentioned it on my blog entry, if you are interested.

Thanks a lot again!

Your info really helps a lot, because I was wondering how long will take for me to have my LCD replaced.

Since I am away from my country, I really don't know where to have it repaired because I have no idea of how long will it take to suit my travel schedule.

Now, as I will be here for a couple of weeks, I will just repair it here.

SeaDragon,

Sony cameras and lenses' warranties are not international. Most likely, you will have to contact Sony's service centre in the country you bought it from.

I bought it here last trip about 3 months ago, so it should be okay, but still I caused the accident anyway ... Thanks a lot for your kind concern Antony.

You don't really have to mention that you caused it, there are many ways to describe things without lying. They would be able to determine if that's your fault or not.

Good Luck with your LCD.
