But my question is with all the rumours flying around regarding some new sony dslr's coming out soon.

should i of saved my cash and waited for the new products ?

But for the price i think ive done the right thing ....

As they say a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush or something like that.

Heard nothing but great things on the 700 so it would seem that you have done well. You can enjoy your new camera now, and who knows when they will come out with the next model up.

The A700 is a super camera, especially at current prices. If I were shooting with an A200, I'd upgrade just for the better viewfinder, not to mention the better sensor, faster Autofocus, etc. Of course, I'm probably biased since I shoot with an A700.

Congrats!

P.S.

Make sure to get the latest V4 firmware update. Sony has made a number of changes to recent firmware to improve image quality at higher ISO speeds. Here's a Sony Europe link:

I'd probably start out with the defaults and tweak it from there. I usually shoot craw + jpeg fine for more flexibility and leave most settings at defaults except I set contrast at -1 (although you may want to leave it at default or higher if you don't plan on any Post Processing). Most of the time, I use Av (Aperture Value, a.k.a., Aperture Priority) mode and set ISO speed for the conditions I'm shooting in.
