Default Sony A700 vertical grip power on/off question

Hi, hopefully an easy question for someone to answer - searching didn't help me. Simply, is it necessary to turn off the power switch on the vertical grip when you are putting the camera away for a bit - i.e., at the same time you shut the camera off? Can't seem to get a straight answer to this and I don't have the manual. Thanks in advance for those who know these things and can share their wisdom.

It's probably better to turn it off just to be safe, but I've accidentally left mine on for a few days and I didn't notice any battery drain.
The hard part is remembering to turn it on before your first shot. That takes some getting used to.

I left mine on all of the time in my 7D grip and couldn't detect any battery drain but the A700 grip has more features so I thought perhaps it draws power - unlike the 7D grip? If the power draw is minimal or non-existent - there should be no harm in leaving it on. I'm like lomitamike and never seem to remember that I have turned it off until I go to take that first shot ... I wonder if Sony has anything to say about this ... they don't discuss it anywhere I could find?
