Default Any new A-500/A-550 users out there yet?

We are beginning to see comments in other forums concerning the new Sony A-500/A-550 cameras.

Both cameras have a long list of features and they are being introduced to take advantage of the upcoming Christmas Market.

These new models, the Sony A-500 and A-500 are cutting new ground with the new Sony brand imager and seem to have great potential for those initial A-200 and A-300 camera users who now want to upgrade.

So let us hear from you, please. It is always good to discuss new cameras.

In some countries, α500 and α550 have just become available to public.

A550 is on ebay ($900, including shipping and extra battery), sold/shipped from hong kong. Nohing about A500. It appears to be not released anywhere yet.

sonystyle.com in the U.S. is showing an expected availability date of October 21 for the A500.

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665970155

October 28 for the A550 (and they've got a neat video demonstrating some of the new features):

But, new cameras normally start shipping earlier than the predicted dates shown at sonystyle.com

According to the user manual of α550 and α500 (same manual), there's no mention of 'tethered shooting' nor the software Remote Camera Control is mentioned. I believe I can conclude that α550 and α500 do not support tethered shooting.

oneguy-

Many thanks for the link to the review on the A-500 and A-550 cameras. It was nicely detailed and very informative.

Have a great day.

Thanks, JimC-

It sure does look nice. However, I jumped the gun and purchased the A-700 while it is still available, so the budget is currently a bit trashed.

Have a great weekend.

I think the feature set for the new models is great. But, the A700 is a better camera in a number of areas. The A700 has a larger body and grip surface, a magnesium alloy chassis, larger and better viewfinder, environmental sealing, larger buffer size and more.

The A500 is going to be closer in size to your older KM 5D or A200. Personally, I think the A700 is just about right in size for me. It's larger grip surface makes the camera seem lighter for longer use periods, and it balances a bit better with some of my lenses compared to the smaller bodies. My eyes are not as good as they once were. So, I prefer the better viewfinder in the A700, too.
