Default KM AF 50/3.5 Macro

Hi everybody,

I will soon be buying my second DSLR. My previous machine was a Pentax but because I didn't buy much brand-name merchandise for it, I am pretty much free to play the field again. That said, the Pentax Kx is attractive and I was going to stick with Pentax, except...

...that I got this KM AF 50/3.5 macro lens the other week... it was really cheap at the time, so I purchased it assuming that I would just sell it if I didn't use it. That said, the online reviews of this lens are quite positive indeed. How good is it, really? Is the fact that I already have it sufficient reason to jump ship for Sony?

No. Not all by itself.

You didn't pay much for it, so letting it languish isn't a big deal. If we were talking about a Minolta 500mm f/8.0 Reflex or even a 'Beercan', depending on what you wanted to shoot, I'd say yes.

Unless you are totally unhappy with your current Pentax equipment, I would not switch to Sony simply because of this lens. If you really think you need to upgrade, then I'd seriously consider the Kx with the 55-300mm (if you don't already have a long zoom Pentax lens). The kit is very aggressively priced and from what I've read, the Kx comes fully loaded.
