Thanks. I'll check out the options. Not in a rush. My Sunpak does the trick. I get perfect exposure, at 1/125, f5.6, ISO 200. The only time I need an automatic flash is when I do outdoor shooting and need a fill-in flash. Then it's always guess work with a non-dedicated flash.

My original question was answered. The EF430 most definitely is NOT compatible with any Minolta or Sony DSLR. It states so in one of the ebay auctions. So, I won't bid on it. :-)

Yep... An older model flash like that is only going to fire at full power on a newer dSLR, if it works at all. ;-)

The HVL-F42AM goes for $208 shipped online. Google it w/ Google shopping, get it and be done! Not worth the headaches, IMO, of a 3rd party flash.

Be careful of low prices. If a price looks too good to be true, it probably is. ;-)

For example, this is what I see looking at resellerratings.com for one of the lower priced vendors using google shopping as you suggested:

"Ordered a Sony HVL-F42AM. They called me a day later saying it was on backorder. Tried to do a bait and switch asking me what kind of camera I had.

I told them I was not interested and would like to cancel my order. The order was canceled without delay.

I was contacted by NWV Direct via phone after placing this review. They offered me a filter if I would remove or change my review. I declined."

Also, keep in mind that not all of the customer reviews you see at ratings sites are genuine (as vendors have been known to try and pad their own ratings with glowing reviews).

I bought mine from bernies.com for $210 shipped, and that was 6 months ago. Too bad it was a one time deal, as they do not have any Sony Alpha products.

I had no idea who they were, so I called first to verify stock, and then ordered.

I would say if you do not know the site, make sure there is a person answering the phone when you call
