Default A330 vs A380

hey guys im new to this site. I hope to get to know some of yall.

Ok now to business. Im in the market for my first DSLR. I want a sony because I have 2 Minolta lenses 1 is a 50MM 1.7 and the other is 70-210 4.5-5.6. My question is Which of these two cameras is the better. And what are the main differences that I overlooked.

380:
$699
14 mp
sensor is .1 mm bigger

330:
$549
10 mp
Can get it in the cool brown/copper color

I appreciate your input

Hey Kevin.

There is very little difference between them except that the A380 is 14MP and the A330 is 10MP. I really wouldn't consider one of them better than the other.

If budget permits, you may also want to consider the A500. It's got lower noise levels with higher available ISO speeds compared to the A330 or A380 models.

I will add that the two Minolta lenses you've got aren't really anything special, so you won't miss anything by considering other brands of cameras.

Thanks guys for the comments,

JimC:
How much is the 500? I have about 800 to spend and im looking at getting a bag as well

Tcav:
Yea I know they arent that great. But the thing I like about sony's is that they have the Sony Pro Duo (Which I have a 2 gig and a 1 gig cards from my current camera), And they take the SD as well which they are pretty cheap. Another thing I like about them is the way the Live View mode is because I have a 4 month old and taking shots on the ground is a little bit easier with the Live View than using the viewfinder.

It's running $749 body only right now, or $849 including an 18-55mm kit lens.

I would probably get the kit lens, so you'll have a lens starting out wider, as it will give you about the same angle of view you'd have using a 27-88mm lens on a 35mm camera (you multiply the focal length by 1.5x to see what focal length would give you the same angle of view on a 35mm camera, due to a smaller APS-C size sensor used in this type of dSLR model).

So, the A500 may be a bit over budget. But, Sony does tend to run specials periodically. So, you may find a better price later if you're not in a big hurry.

P.S.

If you don't care about Live View and the A500 is cost prohibitive with your current budget, you may also want to look at the A230. It's got a larger optical viewfinder compared to the A330 and A380. I'd try them out in a store to get a better idea of the differences between them.

I would go with the 380, the higher pixel will let you crop, and still have a very good resolution. I would for go the a550, getting the little thing here and there for the camera can easily push you over the 900 dollar mark or even the 1000 mark if you add a flash.

How about an A350 with 18-70mm lens for $499 at amazon.com. The actual seller is tigerdirect.com.

The money you saved can be spent on something like a 30mm f 2.8 macro lens for $199.
