Default Used A700

Hi:

A friend of mine at work is looking for a D-SLR camera moving up from point and shoot camera. He has 2 Minolta lenses and shot Minolta film cameras in the 90s. From talking to him and pointing him to bhphotovideo and this board etc he came back and said the A700 is his camera. I put the A200 and an A350 in his hands and he liked them but wanted something with faster AF and FPS like the A700 but not full frame like the A850 and A900. He was the crop factor of 1.3x Now where can I send him to get one used since new ones have seemed to have dropped off the planet.

Also does anyone know when a replacement for the A700 will be coming out. Sony has announced a few cameras as of lately like A500, A850 but nothing to replace the A700. Maybe they are waiting to get it right? Maybe they are looking at building the perfect sports shooters camera to replace the A700

Thanks for any advice

dave

The A550 is not a A-700. It is a nice camera and a little less $$ but not quite up to par with the 700.

If and when the replacement comes out, it could be pretty fantastic. Time will tell.

it is just an option for him to look at also in the sony family, if he does not want to a used body. That is all.

The A550 is not an acceptable substitute for the A700.

See A Professional View of the SONY Alpha Direction.

The poster is a professional photographer that has been a big fan of his A700s and his A900s for some time. He was talking to a Sony rep that recommended he look at the A550.

not saying it is, just saying that since he is looking at the 200, and 350. He may want to look at the 550 also, as it is better then both those camera. So he can keep his option open as seeing what else he may like.

If you don't care about live view or HD video, my personal feeling is to grab an A700 now before they are all gone. They are still available new--but who knows for how long?

You'll want to be *very* fast to take advantage of this clearance deal (A700 with 16-105 for $999 directly from sonystyle.com). It won't last long.
