They're just minor updates from outward appearances. But, it wouldn't surprise me to see some IQ improvements. We'll have to wait for samples to see.

But, Sony will be releasing at least two more dSLR models (that we know about, since they've already announced that much), and they will also have AVCHD video support. One appears to be targeted at entry level buyers, and one will be the A700 replacement.

Note the dSLR Concept Models in this PMA news article:

Being the owner of the A-700, none of the 2,3,4,5 series hold any interest for me.

My A700 still works fine. So, personally, I'm in no hurry to upgrade it. The only thing that might interest me would be a significant improvement in high ISO speed performance (and given improvements in raw conversion, that's not a big deal unless they really surprise me with what they can do with a newer sensor design). So, I could really care less about most anything else.

Actually, some evidence suggests that Sony had an A700 replacement ready to go a while back (but, decided to cancel the project in order to wait until they could incorporate video), and we already know they're working on a more advanced model to replace the A700 that includes AVCHD video support.

Patience. An improved model (or more likely, models) will come. ;-)

Remember, you read it here first!
