The A200 is getting long in the tooth, but it's still quite useable. And nobody else has lenses as good as the Zeiss 16-80 or the 70-300 'G', and that's a pretty good reason to stick with Sony.

As I read through this tread. I was confused whether the Sigma 70300 APO DG was still a good lens or not. I just bought one last month and been using it. It's an awesome lens. I used it on my A900. On the A700, i use a 24-70f/2.8....Please let me know if i made the right choice by buying Sigma instead of SONY70200G...

My Equipments:
A700
A900
Sigma70300 APO DG
CZ1690
SONY2480/f2.8
SONY50mm/f1.4
Beercan 70210

As low priced telephoto zoom lenses goes, the Sigma 70-300 APO DG isn't bad, but it does have a problem with stripping its AF gears when mounted on Sony Alphas.

Following up on thoughts from reading through the thread, my curiosity lies in how any older lens (even the legendary Beercan) holds up - is it just the nature of Sigma workmanship in their older lenses, or are gear issues a risk in any older AF lens?

Everybody elses lenses work fine. It's just some of Sigma's older designs, most popularly the 70-300 APO because the same basic design has been in production for quite a while.

sony 24-80mm &50mm good to but the sigma use it while you can and it might even last you a while if not consider it your 1st mistake as we all did my advice check the g70-300mm sony and buddy always do research before buying anything.
