My wife uses the A-550 with the Tamron 17-50. She uses it like a point and shoot with live view, face detection and the dial turned to auto and I'm impressed with her results. Sometimes I wonder how her party photo's end up better then mine. I'm the photographer in the family with all the gear and it can be quite humbling at times when she shows me her unedited results.

That body/lens combo is quite impressive. I'm sure the CZ16-80 would be equally impressive.

Ok, thank you both...it looks like my money would be better spent on a good lens.

Thanks for your reply. I think I'm just going to get the 17-50 lens, but if I do upgrade to a 550, I know it will work nicely together.

Now for a side tangent, I've been unhappy with Aperture 3, and I'm looking at buying Photoshop Elements 8 Plus. Is it a good photo editor/place to store photos? I'd like to be able to ditch iPhoto/Aperture 3, and also the 20GB of storage online sounds awesome. Would it be better then Aperture 3?

Thanks.

Different? Yes. Better? probably not.

What about Aperture don't you like?

And maybe this is a topic better suited for Editors (Photoshop, etc.)

I have the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 on an A550 and have been quite happy with my results.

My wife is not a friend of technology but doing just as described above she uses it like a point and shoot to good effect.

The only thing is mine is the DI II which I thought was designed for the APS-C sensor so I have no idea how it might work with a full frame body.

I can't speak for Aperture 3, but I use Aperture 2 and Photoshop Elements 8.

I much prefer the final results from Aperture 2 over PE8 for basic edits. But for advanced editing there some things that Aperture 2 just can't do.

If I were to use PE8 alone I would not store my photo's within the program. I would keep my photo's in the finder/photo's

Yes, the Tamron 17-50/2.8 is a "Di II", which means it's just for APS-C dSLRs. On 'Full Frame' dSLRs, it will project a smaller image onto the center portion of the larger image sensor.

And I do like Aperture 3 I guess, It just doesn't work well. For example, currently I can't even use it, because it refuses to import pictures...

That's why I'm still using Aperture 2. You are not alone, I've heard quite a few horror stories with Aperture 3 especially while moving your photo's during the upgrade.

I would love to have some of the new features that are in A-3 but I'm just not ready to take that risk.

I just may wait until the next version comes out.
