Thanks JimC and Tcav.

I'm still in the checking it out phase of the A550 and the Tamron 17-50 but have some early opinions.

First the A550. The things I like about it so far are the live view and great swiveling LCD. The 14mp is nice especially for macro. The face detection seems to work as it's supposed to and the high ISO works good also.

Things I don't like about it. The viewfinder is dark, lack of quick navigation and other useful options and the fact that Apple Aperture 2 cannot open the A550 ARW files (not Sonys fault). I did a PSE 8 update and can now open the ARW files, but I prefer to edit in Aperture.

As mentioned earlier, for a easy to use (put it in auto, jpeg) camera it's excellent. The jpeg quality seems good enough for me ( usually shoot raw), it reminds me of my old KM 5Ds quality jpegs but at 14mp.

The Tamron 17-50 is an excellent lens, and meets all expectations.

I haven't had a chance to get out and use the SAM 55-200 yet, but tested it against the 70-300G, 70-400G and the Minolta 70-210 f/4 and was very suprised. From shooting all three lenses on an A700 and a tripod, 2 second timer and then looking at 100% crops, it looked much better then the 70-210 and just about as good if not the same as the 70-300 G in my opinion. I'm not an expert so take it for what it's worth. I've sold my 70-210 since acquiring this new lens.

This is fun, but now I need to figure out how to make some money with this stuff to make the wife happy.

Aperture 3 should support it if you have it updated (but, not Aperture 2).

It looks like the last update even supports the latest EVIL type cameras, as pointed out in this post by shoturtle (and as you can tell from the list of supported cameras on Apple's site):

If you don't have Aperture 3, it looks like they want $99 for an upgrade from earlier versions. Click on the upgrade choice on the right side of the page and you'll see the price change:

Thank NHL.

Yeah, the warehouse shots aren't too impressive looking at them now.
