I'd wait and see what really happens to shipments/supply/demand, versus what you see on rumor sites.

Sony USA never mentioned the A580, and while the A560 did appear on SonyStyle.com, it has been removed. SonyStyle.co.uk, however is accepting preorders for both the A560 and the A580, and states that they should be available at retailers by the middle of October. I don't think they've been delayed; I think Sony USA doesn't quite know what it's doing.

I don't know. It all makes my head hurt. LOL

I'll think about the lens combos. Our initial budget was 800 for everything, ha!

It would work but since sports got added to the equalization, your need for the right lens just really jumped up in price.

Would it be cheaper to get a powerfulish external flash and the tamron 70-300mm? Obviously not ideal, but on a budget it never is, just the best you can do (I know since I'm always very tight)

the problem is most sporting events in gyms do not allow flash while the games are going on.

I know. But it doesnt seem like changng systems would be cheaper, i dunno.

When I started my research he was also playing football but now just basketball. When it was multiple sports I wasnt as worried since Id at least have at least not have to worry about indoor action. But now theres that, and my husband signed my daughter up for gymnastics. Bleah.

$800 budget is workable if you go the route of refurbished camera. Sonystyle.com has an outlet section where they sold Sony refurbished cameras at very attractive prices. I bought an A200 for $260 from and am very satisfied with the camera. Two weeks later, they had the A230 for $286 and the A330 for $319. Last weeks they had an A230 with 2 lens for $240 but they were sold out in a hurry. If you like Sony DSLR, I suggest you should visit that site from time to time to see if there is something for you.

I know it is a refurbished camera with a 90 days warranty instead of one year for a new one. This is better deal than buying it used at Ebay.

I bought a HVL42AM flash for $162 at cowboom.com, a Best Buy outlet. They were sold out too since they are $10 less than amazon.com.
