Sigma's reputation isn't the greatest as far as compatibility is concerned (they tend to have more compatibility problems compared to other lens manufacturers from reports I've seen).

IOW, it's not uncommon to see issues with Sigma lenses and flashes with cameras from other camera manufacturers, too. But, most of the time (at least with newer model lenses and flashes), they can usually correct the compatibility problems via rechipping (i.e., newer EEPROMs and/or firmware for them).

Well, as long as they are fixing them free (and that using an old one doesn't accidentally destroy your camera) then it seems okay.
Although it seems like they aren't necessarily able to fix all theyre lenses if theyve been discontinued for a while. I wonder how many fall under 'too old' - there cant be too many since Alpha isn't THAT old.
One concern is if other brands have similar difficulty. But I agree with the above abou Sigma compatibility.
