Mine cost $90 plus shipping. If your cost would be comparable, that's a lot more than the lens is worth, but less than you'd pay for a 'Beercan'.

So I tried cleaning the contacts with no luck. They pass the eye test and look clean. I did see on those reviews they were using a350 and under.

have you seen this tokina lens work on a500, a550?

oh well. the Minolta is ok for now and I will look to get the Tamron 50mm or the Sigma 70mm. I will try to rent or test before i buy.

thanks again.

No. but if it works on an A350, there's no reason it shouldn't work on your A550.

Scott asked what the market price of a Sony mount Sigma 17-70mm non OS lens should run on E-Bay. I think that $300 is a good starting bid, but you should expect to go higher. My guess is that it will probably end up at around $350 to $360.

You might also check Adorama, B & H, and KEH for that lens. While I was looking at KEH, I did notice that the had a Sigma 18-125mm lens at $149. That is not a wide aperture lens but I have used it quite effectively as a walk around lens, making it something of a "bargain."

No. This is an issue with the lens mount, not the inner workings of the image sensor.

If the battery contacts inside the camera still exist in some form then trying to clean and test with a new battery should not pose any risk.

If your Minolta uses the battery pack I think it does those cells do not have the ability to discharge fast enough to do more than get warm.

I do not wish to derail your thread but can go into detail for you if you wish

Steve

I have the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 DI II, great lens on my A550 and is the lens that stays mounted by default for grab-and-go
