Default Minolta Beer can and mini beer can

I'm told these are nice alternatives to the Sony Alpha lenses. I see the beer can referred to as 70-210 f4. Is the aperture fixed at 4 over the entire lens range? Same for the mini beer can

Yes, and yes. I have a canon shooting friend, and we compared results from my beercan with his 70-200 f4L, and could see no difference, even after "pixel peeping". These are very good lenses, and the constant f4 is very useful when shooting portraits.

I disagree with the answer you got, but it may be semantics. The MAXIMUM aperture is F4 at all focal lengths. It will stop down to F32.

See http://www.dyxum.com/ for more information on Minolta lenses than you knew existed.
