Default Sony DT16-105mm, buy new or used? Any good used lens websites?

So for no reason other than I just want to, I think I want to replace my Sigma 17-70 with a Sony DT 16-105.

Should I buy the Sony new or try my luck at finding a used one in good condition? If so what are some reputable used lens sources online and if you happen to know of any in Manhattan (I work downtown).

Where can I try and sell my Sigma lens besides craiglist?

Thanks

+1 on keh.com

They're my favorite vendor of used gear, with very conservative ratings as well as a great return policy and short term warranty.

But, they don't have that lens in stock from what I can see of their used listings right this minute.

When shopping there, make sure to check both the Sony Digital and Minolta Maxxum listings, as sometimes they'll put lenses in one section but not another (with most of the Sony branded lenses for APS-C size sensors showing up in the Sony Digital Section).

Sony branded zoom lenses in the Sony Digital Section:

See the Lenses section for both Sony branded Primes (Fixed Focal Length), as well as third party lenses (shown as non manufacturer) for other lens types:

But, make sure to see the Minolta Maxxum section, too.

B&H also has a used department. They're a very reputable vendor with conservative gradings, with a good return policy and short term warranty on used gear. Here's their lenses section (and you can narrow down choices to Minotla Autofocus lenses and/or specific camera mounts via check boxes on the left side of the page)

But, it looks like the only Sony branded used lens in stock right this minute is a 55-200mm

Another source is the used Department at Adorama.com. But, it looks like they've got virtually nothing in stock in the way of Sony/Maxxum mount lenses in their used department right this minute.

Of course, ebay is another source (just be careful and research the seller carefully). I see four used 16-105mm lenses there right this minute:

Thanks all, I have been looking this morning and have not found many of these for sale used. Ebay was the only place, I also looked for the Zeis 16-80 but not much out there.

I may just stick with my Sigma, I re-read the review on my lens and I felt better after reading it. It says that my older version happens to be better than some of the newer versions. For best results I need to stop down at wide angle, which kinda negates the 2.8 at 17mm but that is ok.

I will take my time trying to find either the zeiss 16-80 or dt 16-105 in good condition at a price I like.

If you have the DC model it has a 4.43 rating @ Dyxum. It is a very sharp lens. I use it for my vacation lens and have never been disappointed. I have taken many shots that didn't need any post processing with this lens. Keep watching KEH for the 16-105 but you've still got a great lens.

Yeah it is, I have the non HSM version 17-70mm f/2.8 DC Lens that I bought three years ago. I was reading some not so great reviews of other Sigma lenses and that stirred my emotions to maybe upgrade. But then I took a step back and realized that my lens is older and re-read the reviews of it and that helped stop me from impulsively buying a lens today.

I have not used this lens in a long time, it was paired with an a300 that was not great in low light and I did not really use the a300 that much. My wife never wanted to use the a300 because she was afraid to damage it. This time around the a580 will be out for her to use and she will get some basic lessons from me, this way the new camera gets a lot of use. There is no sense having this awesome camera if she doesn't use it since she spends more time with my 15mos old taking lots of pics.
