What exactly is it that you want from a new camera that the A700 cant do for you?

I want to get the face recognition ability, and live view.

I also like the higher resolution.

After looking all night and reading everything possible. I think Im going to go with the a65.

Im putting the a700 on ebay now.

I don't know if it will make a difference, but the A580 and the A77 have vertical grips, while the A65 does not.

The a65 has better battery life than the a77. It is also smaller and lighter. I have both the a65 and a580 (with grip) and much prefer the a65 (I have also handled the a77 - it is a large and heavy camera) - carrying an extra battery is no big deal, and with a sensor like this you can crop your horizontals with little or no penalty, although it is easy enough to hold the camera vertically and shoot. I have put a grip on every camera I have had that would take one, and I have come to the conclusion that they are more burden than benefit, unless your shooting demands for long term continuous shooting without interruption are such that you can't stop to change batteries. Mine aren't. Besides a grip can make you look more like a pro which can either be a benefit or liability - often the latter, barring you from some locales that only allow amateur shooters.

YES! The A580 or the newer SLT models are all way better than the A700!

I'd go for either the A 580 or the A55 depending on how you feel about an EVF vs a OVF.

If I wanted the 24MP APS-C sensor I would go for the A77.

I don't think you will get much better needed image quality with any of the new cameras as your getting now with your A700. I use the A700 all the time and I have the A55 and an A850 that I use for different reasons. Unless your getting paid or doing commercial work I would buy a new lens of flash with the money.

Just my opinion.

The EVF of the A77/A65 is better than the EVF in the A55/A33/A35, but it is different from an OVF. You should check it out before you commit to it.
