Default Sony A37 HDR test...

Another test in contrasty lighting- this time using the multi-frame HDR.
Images show standard exposure,HDR auto and HDR 6 ev setting....
Note- avoid HDR when seagulls flying around...lol...

Without HDR, the sensor alone never could have captured the detail in the clouds...

Indeed... the HDR feature is very effective- and natural looking,depending on the strength chosen. It's also pretty quick to rattle off the frames,so as to reduce the need for a tripod- assuming you're in good light and have a steady hand...!
