I am contemplating on buying either the Maxxum 7d or the Canon 20d. Does anyone have any idea on price for the 7d ? Also how does Minoltas lenses compare to Canons for image quality? The Minolta mount lenses appear to cost somewhat less then the Canons .

It's competing with the 20D so expect the same price. That's what it is in the UK.

It depends on lenses... some are better, and more expensive than Canon's still, like theses white "G" lenses with SSM:

Older Minolta lenses are more affordable but so are the Sigma's EX professional line which cost the same across all manufacturers!

In regards to the price, the October Popular Photography& Imaging magazine states that the 7D should be between $1300 and $1400 for the body.

Ritz Camera has it listed for $1,599.99 US (ouch)! I hope the price comes down a bit, but the Anti-shake built in to the body makes it very appealing.

I have a Maxxum 7 film camera, and I bought Sigma lenses to go with it. A 28-70mm f2.8 and a 70-210 f2.8. I find the quality excellent, and had researched them before purchasing.

I believe it was Popular Photography who had done some comprehensive lens tests, with image quality charts that showed these lenses to be on par with OEM lenses at half the price.

Same quality. Half the price. No brainer.

Very good point!

Think about it if anyone was to get the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS with a dRebel -> this lens will finance for the D7D/Sigma for the same price with a much better results at high ISO... and get the IS feature on any and every lenses afterward
