I have been holding off on the purchase of a D-SLR waiting on Minolta to build one. We have a considerable investment in lenses for the 7xi and would like to use them on the D-SLR. Will the Zoomxi lenses work on the new camera? I have four of these lense. Thanks.

We just have to wait

... The Xi lens has 3 more electrical pins for the motorized zoom, but the AF is still done through the mechanical coupling, so at least the AF will still work and the aperture control through the remaining 5 pins just like on the film cameras

Worst is you'll have to push-pull the zooms manually! :G

Cool. Thanks for the quick reply. I hope they work. They have proven to be pretty good lenses on the old 7xi. If I have to buy new lenses then I will probably buy the Nikon. Thanks again.

I am told the Xi lens will work with a Dynax 7d, is this correct?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of a motorized lens over a manual one?

I have never heart that an xi lense doesn't work on the 5D/7D. Thus there should be no problem. On the other hand, the idea of a motorised zoom has not turned out to be a good one. Thus these lenses are not liked very much and their Ebay prices are low.

I have no personal experience, but I contacted a friend that I buy a lot of lenses through and she assures me that all the xi motorized lenses are fully compatible with the 7d. She has no 5d to verify but I doubt thatthe 5d would drop support on those lenses if the 7d has it.
