I have a question about "usability" of film SLR camera lenses.

(I know this is probably an easy question, but I do not know and do not seem to be able to find the answer).

I have a Minolta X-700 SLR film camera with a large assortment of lenses (I have a lot money invested in lenses and other accessories).

I am thinking of moving up to a digital (Minolta) camera. I am just starting to research the 7-8 meg pixel Konica/Minolta SLR cameras.

Will I be able to use the lenses from my Minolta X-700 film SLR?

Thanks, "krazykat"

NO, you will NOT be able to use either a MD or MC lens on the 7D

you can only use A mount autofocus 'maxxum' lenses

The AF Maxxum/Dynax mount is totally different from previous Minolta lenses, this means that your lenses WILL NOT WORK on the 7D, or any other digital SLR.

Sorry, only Pentax, and to a lesser extent Nikon, have kept compatability with their older MF lenses, Minolta and Canon abandoned the old tech products when they went AF.

B&H shows two different brands of adaptors for MD lenses to mount on Maxxum's, but both are out of stock with no delivery date. They claim to have optics to compensate for the extra camera to lens distance. No clue as to what these optics will do to image quality or FL, but I wouldn't expect superb results. Still, the prices listed (if they're valid) are low and it would be interesting to try one out.
