Steve's review notes that the addon grip is capable of taking either a KM battery or AA cells. Does this mean that the grip has some form of cradle that can accept AA batteries? And if so, would such a cradle not also fit the 7D?

I ask, because the only thing now holding me back from the 7D is my intense dislike of proprietary batteries having been caught out with such batteries dying and being unreplaceable before. (The Pentax takes AAs and wins brownie points with me.)

The grip has a spot for 2 NP400 batteries. There is a cradle that holds 6 AA batteries, but that cradle fills the spot of the two Minolta batteries. SO, no, you can not use that cradle in just the 7D for AA use.

I like being able to buy a battery anywhere, and usually the middle of no where has AAs. However I knew I was going to buy the grip, so this was not a big problem for me. The NP400 does seem to do very well, and I plan on buying a 2nd. However I will always keep the AA cradle loaded with some brand new spare AA batteries.... just in case.
