I bought my maxxum 7d this monday for 1099 dollars.

with the 200$ rebate it became 899$.

thats close to what the 5d would cost....but i was able to buy the 7d at a "close to 5d" price.

I'd definitely recommand getting the 70-210f4....its an awesome lens. I use my 5D so far for racing pic(see my 5D experience thread) and with that lens under bright sunlight the AF is fast(lens is slow in low light)and pic is sharp and colorful.

Better to spend the money on the D series of Minolta lenses?

Also, how does macro photography work in the dSLR world? For my FZ20, I had a Nikon 6T, but I've seen some Minolta zoom lenses also tagged as macro lenses. This is a little confusing. Is there a way to use the 6T with this camera?
