What would you guys buy? and why ?

Sigma 70-300 APO DG
Minolta 70-210 f/4 + 2x TC AF Teleplus

Ineed the extra zoom ( 300 - 400mm) becauseI want to do some surf photos (I know, brighter lens, longer zoom, butI am on a budget )

so what would you consider?

Thanks

Shanti

Probably you want to throw in the 100-300 APO as well(~$350-400 US)...

Shanti,
I have both Minolta 75-300 and 100-300 APO (just got this one last month). For the price, the 75-300 is really a good deal. The jury is still out for my newer lens, I need to compare the advantages of APO and why I spent $200 more for this lens:?.
But if your on a budget or just need a lens that you can bring to the beach and not worry too much, I'd definitely get the 75-300 Minolta. Here's a picture of a skimboarder taken with the 75-300 Minolta (waves were flat that day):

wow thats a nice one, but i was considering the 70-210 + a 2x TC,I can get that locally, the 75-300 minolta i have read some pretty bad stuff about it besides i can't get it locally and its a hassle to get them otherwise

But i will consider it, seeing as how nice that picture is!

Thanks!

The 70-210 with a 2x convertor will very slow focusing and the aperture will be F8. I have the 75-300 4.5-5.6 Minolta all metal lens which is very similar to the 70-210 in build and image quality. It's a great lens and has a nice bokeh too. I found mine on eBAY for $80.

Hard to find one that cheap but here's a couple on eBAY. I've seen them go as high as $200. Good luck.

nooner, one of th lens ( the only one left) says this

http://cgi.ebay.com/VERY-RARE-ALL-ME...QQcmdZViewItem

"I HAVE LISTED THIS FINE LENS AT A REDUCED PRICE BECAUSE THERE IS ONE SMALL AREA OF FAINT SPIDER WEB LIKE GROWTH IN THE FRONT OPTICS GROUP THAT IS FAR TOO MINOR TO HAVE ANY AFFECT ON YOUR SHOTS."

I emailed the seller and he told me that is un-noticeable on the photos, but still do you think its a good deal 106 dlls for this lens even with this growth ?

Thanks

If that is $106 in US dollars, that's pretty high for something with an imperfection.
B&H has the US warranty for $149 and import for $139. For $33 more dollars or less if you shop around you can get a new lens.
Also that growth may limit the life of your lens, in a humid enviorment it may grow fast and creep into your viewing/picture zone and is costly to get repaired.
