Is the mirror slap noise any quieter on the 7D than the 5D? And is there any reason to select the 5D over the 7D other than size, weight and cost?

i have not directly compared my 7D to a 5D but i find the 7D to be comparable to my maxxum 5 for 'slap noise' (not too bad)

other than weight and price the 7D is FAR superior to the 5D and well worth the extra money

(weight to me is a non issue, magnesium beats plastic any day + i use 'big' telephotos hand held where the added weight/balance is actually a big plus)

Thanks, I compared the 5D to the D50 and E600 and it was considerable louder. I like to take pictures of birds so noise is a consideration. I was leaning towards the 5D but am thinking again about the 7D.

tcook,

taken with 200mm (300 equiv)

the point was that the 'mirror slap' did NOT spook the Pelican

Hi,

I've been searching for a comparision between these two cameras, but haven't been lucky, in fact, most sites tend to put them like quite similar cameras. Does anyone have a detailed comparision between features / characteristics?

Regards

KM 5D:

KM7D:

(use the specifications tab)

there are BIG differences between the two models which, imo, more than justify the price difference

a major + for me of the 7D is the ability to capture 'RAW' and jpeg AT THE SAME TIME

(not to mention a 'RAW' burst rate of 12)
