I tried an M42 adapter on 5D but got "lens not attached" message. I didn't have time to play with the setup. Is there something I'm missing? I tried several lenses and tried the camera in manual and automatic modes.

You need to go into the menu and enable the shutter release with no lens attached.. I can;t remember just what it said but if you hunt around in the menus I'm sure you will see it.. Also no need to re set this feature back when using a normal lens as they will still work fine..George
