I've read one review that says the 7D has a wireless remote with it in the pack, but it doesn't say what it does... it then says you have to buy a remote shutter release later in the review.

Other reviews don't seem to mention it at all!

Is there a wireless remote? What does it do?
Where would I get a remote shutter release? is it wireless? and how much does it cost?

Could this be referring to the Wireless Flash functionality? Both the 7D & 5D can fire the 5600 and 3600 units wirelessly.

I honestly don't know. It was just listed in the box contents on the review... "Wireless remote control"

looks like a typo

the R-1000 remote cord is a 'wired' (optional) accessory

wireless 'remote flash' capability is 'built in', requires appropriate (dedicated) flash unit to work

Yep... Jeff just made a mistake in the package contents.

AFAIK, KM doesn't offer any wireless remote for the 7D.

BTW, take his impressions with a grain of salt. It's based on the original firmware.

KM released new firmware for the camera since then, dramatically increasing peformance:

That makes more sense.
