Whilst scampering to find a vendor to COD me a 5D I came accross a new (but on backorder) $400 KM 28-85mm 2.8 D. BUT, I can't find anyone else selling it or reviewing it at the normal mhohner, Photodo, Photozone sites. Most be a mistake, guess I'll call them tomarrow. I kown Adorama has the 28-75 D listed as a G and talking with Israel didn't seem to help.

If any of you fine folks know anything about this and its for real I'd really like to know how it compares to the 28-75 2.8 D.

AFAIK, KM doesn't make a 28-85mm f/2.8, and they never have.

You can get a Konica-Minolta 28-75mm f/2.8 (D) (well liked lens)

or Minolta 28-70mm f/2.8G

or a Minolta 28-85mm f/3.5-4.5, or a Minolta 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 (I've got one of these)

But, I've never heard of a Konica Minolta (or Minolta) 28-85mm f/2.8 (D)

Jim-

I was also surprised to find these 28-70mm Minolta F 2.8 also in short supply on ebay. These lenses are disappearing right before our eyes!

Yep.... Amazing

Check out the Tamron version if you are looking for this lens:

http://www.tamron.com/lenses/prod/2875mm.asp

It's well liked, too (the KM lens is the same optical design, but probably has different coatings and electronics).

P.S. -- It looks like retailers still have the Konica Minolta 28-75mm f/2.8 (D) in stock. But, the 50mm f/1.7 is sold out everywhere (at least the major online retailers).

The manufacturer part number shown by pcnation (2696-810) is the same part number some of the other vendors show for the 28-75mm f/2.8 (D).

IOW, it's a typo (it's not a 28-85mm).

P.S. -- Make sure you check out any potential vendor carefully. I would never buy from a newer vendor with a small number of customer reviews (too many scam artists around, and some of them have been known to pad their own ratings).

I also use http://resellerratings.com (and read through the customer feedback carefully, looking for patterns). If they're not listed with lots of good customer feedback, I don't buy from them.

Thanks to KM's pre-planning, you can always purchase used Minolta AF lenses with confidence beause the will work PERFECTLY on the KM 5D. They are MUCH cheaper as well!
