Hi Guys,

The more sports work I do the more I want a Vertical Grip. I also want to start portrait work so will find it useful for that.

I'm sure some of you will have seen this http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=164744which has been going around for a while. Anyone tried to make one? Are there any plans by a 3rd party supplier to make one?

I am tempted to have a go myself.

Mark.

With the 5D out of production I doubt you'll see much interest in companies providing aftermarket accessories.

I think trying the same or similar DIY grip is a good idea. KM has sold a lot of 5d's lately, so you never know if anyone aftermarket would make a vertical grip. I think it will depend on whether or not the Sony badged models would have compatibility- I suspect they'll be identical, thoughI thinkI am in the minority on that. Either way, if you have access to a cheap grip that works for you ergonomically, I'd go for it. If you're good to the remote release, you'll only be risking the grip.

Another idea that I have seen is to craft one out of wood. Think I will go for this first as will cost almost nothing. Will let everyone know how this goes when I am back at home next week.

Hi,

Do you know is it possible to make VC-7D vertical grip little bit shorten for KM 5D?

Not sure, but the main problem is that there are no contacts inside the 5D to allow the focus/shutter release to work. I am going to go for a wooden carved grip I think.

Externally there sure is. I was just trying to keep the cost down really low. If you have a 7 grip already then possibly could modify it with a bit of careful engineering (cutting and moulding with heat).

No, I don't have it yet. Just thinking... 7D is 16 mm bigger. That means that I have cut 8mm + 8mm off and use clue to make it one peace again.
